These pills will give you cancer, cause heart attacks, UAE ministry warns

They will also increase your risk of having a stroke.

The Abu Dhabi Health Authority (Haad) banned yet another slimming pill from the shelves in Abu Dhabi's pharmacies and hospitals.

The dietary supplement "Hoodia Gordonii Gold Capsules" has been found to contain Sibutramine and Phenolphthalein which are prohibited in the UAE.

Sibutramine has been linked to increased risk of heart attacks and strokes, whereas Phenolphthalein might cause cancer.

The Haad also recalled "Harmonic Ace Shears" which are used for blood vessel dissection because of a mechanical flaw.

All pharmacies and health facilities have been given one year to re-register their expired licenses.
